Sustainable development study activities include identifying sensitive areas, suggesting cleaner production strategies, supporting areas of high agriculture potential and promoting ways of improving the sustainable use of natural and social resources in a project area. Socio-Economic Surveys Household and workforce skills surveys are conducted to give an understanding of how a development may affect communities in the area in which a development may occur, or to clearly plan for economic development activities. Skills of potential job applicants can be documented and used for recruitment planning. These surveys also provide information for Social Impact Assessments . Surveys can be used to monitor the social impacts a development might have on an affected community. Stakeholder Engagement Processes (SEPs) Conducting a transparent and independent stakeholder engagement process has become a key component of any development project. Public consultation is undertaken as part of the authorisation processes for listed activities under NEMA.
